New Executive Council will help shape the future of AI governance, including the implementation of independent verification.

Amida co-founder Peter L. Levin has joined the new Executive Council of Fathom, an independent nonprofit working to build and scale AI governance policies. The bipartisan council brings together former governors, national security leaders, technology executives, and AI experts to guide Fathom’s work on independent verification of AI systems, in which qualified, government-licensed experts evaluate AI models against public standards.
“I’ve worked on enough government technology deployments to know that implementation matters just as much as the original idea. If independent verification is going to work, agencies need to know who qualifies to do the testing, what benchmarks they’re using, and what happens when a system fails. Only if system owners can trust the oversight process will it achieve its full promise,” said Peter L. Levin, Co-Founder, Executive Director, and Chief Innovation Officer of Amida.
